This page is dedicated to the memory of our Retread ® Brothers and Sisters. May their memory always be in our hearts and minds, never to be forgotten

ISAIAH 40:31

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Roy (Red) Allen
Our old friend of about forty years, a Retread ® member Roy (Red) Allen passed away in February 2000. We will miss him, as he was a lot of fun to be around and enjoyed our practical jokes we pulled on him. - Jerry Davis

Kenneth "Bear" Allred, Randleman NC
Fellow Retread ® member Kenneth "Bear" Allred (pictured left) passed away on May 23, 2000 at the age of 46. He had been dianosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year. For those that didn't know "Bear", it was your loss. He didn't ask for much but he gave more than he ever received. "Bear" was one of the best friends anyone could ever have. He will be missed very much. Thanks for being a part of our lives "Bear" and you shall live on in our hearts and memories forever. - Jim and Sue Everhart

Lacey Kingston Barnes, Southern Pines NC
In remembrance of a long time Retread ® member Lacey Kingston Barnes (75 years old). Date of birth - May 26, 1925 in Elmira New York. Date of Death - January 14, 2001 in Southern Pines NC. His wife Anna Sexton Barnes, his son Jonathan Barnes, two daughters Linda Immarigeon and Sandra Dannhauser and eight grandchildren, survives Lacey. Please let's keep this family in our thoughts and prayers in their time of sorrow. - Jim Everhart

Lacey Barnes, Southern Pines NC
I am sad to report that a longtime member of the Retreads ®, and my good riding buddy, Lacey Barnes of Southern Pines NC, passed away a short time ago. He fought a valiant battle but finally succumbed to "old man" cancer. Lacey belonged to the New York Retreads ® before coming south in '88. Before his retirement in '87 he was a civil engineer with IBM. He was close to being a charter member of the Retreads ® back in the days when most of our gatherings were weekend campout affairs and patches were used instead of pins for rallies. He will certainly be missed by all Retreads ® that knew him because he was a gentle and thoughtful motorcyclist. - Sincerely, Doc Jenkins, Retreads ®/CRRMC, McColl SC (2001)

Paul Hurst, Bluefield West Virginia
Another Retread ® rides away for the last time…We were informed on April 25th that Paul Hurst of Bluefield West Virginia passed away. Our sympathy goes out to this family in their time of grief. He was a member of the Retreads® M/C, a lifetime member of the AMA and a member of the American Legion Post #9. His wife Lillian survives him. Paul will be sorely missed, but his memory will live on forever in the tales that we share. - Jim Everhart (2001)

Al Hodge, Spencer NC
Another Retread ® rides away for the last time… Longtime Retread ® member Al Hodge passed away on Friday June 01,2001 at Magnolia Gardens in Spencer NC. He was born in Highland County VA on November 25, 1923. He was 77 years old. Al was a retired lab technician with Dupont Chemicals (38 years). He was a veteran of the US Navy Armed Guard serving in World War II in Italy, Omaha Beach, and Guam, earning a Bronze Star in 1944 for helping save an injured fellow sailor off of their sinking ship. (Amazingly the fellow that Al helped with saving the injured sailor was at Al's funeral.) Al was also a 60-year member of Moose Lodge #1309 in Waynesboro Va., a 16-year member of the GWRRA Chapter R Thomasville and a Retread ® since 1977, first in Virginia and then in NC. He had over 350,000 miles in the saddle of a motorcycle. He was formerly married to NC Retread ® member Helen Swicegood of Lexington. Two sons - Ray and Jerry, a daughter Lisa, a brother Charles, two sisters - Evelyn and Irene, and four grand children - Kristi, Brian, Bobby and Helen, survived him. Betty Hege of Lexington NC was with him and caring for him in his final days prior to going into Magnolia Gardens in Spencer NC. He will be missed by many. Sue and I just returned from the local Lexington NC funeral for Al Hodge on June 4th. There was a small service held in Lexington with a few friends and family. Besides Sue and I, there were several members of the Thomasville Chair City Wings; Chapter "R" present as well. It was a very nice service. Afterwards there was family and friends visitation where items from Al's past were on display including his navy pictures, Retreads ® rally pins, GWRRA vest, and other memorabilia. Until now I was unaware Al had received a Bronze Star during WWII. I'm so sorry about how much you learn about someone in their passing... A second service was held on Wednesday June 6th at the Fisherville Baptist Church in Fisherville VA. Al was buried in the Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro Va. at the request of his daughter Lisa and his sister Evelyn. - Jim Everhart

Virginia Eanes, Salisbury NC
And on a sad note Virginia Eanes… passed away on December 29, 2001 from natural causes. She was 78 years old. Sue and I had never met Virginia and I'm sure it was our loss for never knowing her. We want to send our deepest heart felt sympathies for Randy's loss of his mother and to Vernon for the loss of his wife. Randy is bearing a full load right now and we hope he and Vernon have a spot in your prayers each night. We are sure that Virginia will be missed by many…

Joyce Dillard, Lexington NC
It pains me to have to send these kind of messages. We have lost a faithful Retread this weekend.

Joyce Dillard of Lexington passed away early on the morning of Feb. 2, 2002. She had been in declining health for several years. There was a graveside service on Monday, February 4. Joyce leaves behind her husband Joe, her daughter Tracy Roberts, and her granddaughter. The NC Retreads ® would like to extend our condolences to the family.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, PO Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27293; or Second Reformed United Church of Christ, 330 N. Church St., Lexington, NC 27292.

Please say a special prayer for the Dillard family, I'm sure it would be appreciated.

SC Retreads® Departed Brother, Mich Hughes

Ken Watson from Ladson SC, sent us a message on July 6th via the SC Retreads Yahoo Group alerting us to Mich’s passing.  This is the first we had heard about it and thought we should pass this on to others in your state. (Note Mick was a SC Retreads® member from the Charleston Area in 2004)

I don’t know if anyone heard, but back in January, Michael (Mich) Hughes (Charleston SC)
passed away due to a stroke. He was a true brother/friend to me and our families shared many great times together. He will be missed, and remembered. I miss him.”
